Pumpkin Picking Near Des Moines
Fall is pumpkin picking time and you can pick your favorite pumpkin from our pumpkin patch within minutes from the Des Moines area. It seems everyone in the family has their favorite. Some are tall and narrow, and others are short and wide. Whichever ones you choose, they will add to your festive fall decorations at home.
About Our Pumpkin Patch
This year we’ve again planted approximately 5 acres of pumpkins. Two of those 5 acres are planted in our u-pick pumpkin patch located near our Apple Barn and General Store for convenient picking. An additional three-acre pumpkin patch is located at the far south end of our farm. While that patch is not accessible to our visitors for u-pick, the hillside patch of various colors and shapes can be seen while taking a traditional hay wagon ride through our farm and orchard. This “supply” patch helps us keep our u-pick patch filled with loads and loads of home-grown pumpkins ready for the pickin’!
How It Works
Our pumpkin picking patch is located just west of our big red apple barn. You’ll see the pumpkin check-out stand in front. That’s where you enter. Then, just grab a wagon to pull through the patch and start filling it up with your favorite pumpkins. Bring your treasures back to the pumpkin stand, and we’ll weigh them up for you there. We also have gourds and pie pumpkins for your fall decorations. Pumpkins are $.55/pound.
Picking pumpkins at Wills Family Orchard has become a family tradition for many families, and it’s also a fun fall activity to share with a group of friends. Come on out and join us at the farm to make your own fall memories!
